Sun King: Making a global brand shine

Sun King is the world’s leading off-grid solar energy company, focused on bringing sustainable power to off-grid, hard-to-reach communities. With 29,000 sales representatives in over a dozen countries, Sun King needed help connecting with and educating audiences on the possibilities of solar energy, while building trust and confidence in their business. We worked hard to reposition the Sun King brand, finding novel ways of empowering sales agents in remote, under-resourced regions, to help them achieve their growth goals. 

A brand with heart and heritage

Our refreshed identity centres around Sun King’s African heritage and sunny personality. Energy is embedded through a range of graphic devices, illustrations and feel-good photography while the grid-based layout provides flexibility and scalability. Since adopting our technical guidelines, brand consistency across Sun King’s territories has increased dramatically.

Our new web-based ‘cost calculator’ helps potential customers grasp the year-on-year financial benefit of investing in solar power. This tool dismantles barriers to engagement and opens the door for Sun King sales agents.

We embedded the client’s sustainable ethos into updated product packaging design: black graphics look modern and clean printed on recyclable cardboard. The packaging is cheap to make and can be disposed of locally. We even created aerosol templates to enable Sun King representatives to apply branded signage to their sales huts.

An online sales platform

Over the course of the last three years, we’ve applied Sun King’s updated brand in the UX/UI design of seven regional sales websites which we continue to host and maintain. We’ve managed the launch of EZ1, an affordable mobile phone that’s compatible with solar charging. And we continue to provide business consultancy services to Sun King, enjoying our journey together towards a sustainable future.
